The cultural richness of Bucovina invites you to discover the history of one of the most beautiful region of this county. The monasteries from Bucovina, masterpieces of art, many of them being included in UNESCO heritage, leads you in the past to discover the history of this places.

The journey in Bucovina starts with Moldovita Monastery, one of the most ancient monastic settlement which is located in the picturesque mountains of Bucovina. We’re going on with Sucevita Monastery, this one being part of the fortified monasteries with defensive walls. The monastery was entirely covered with a set of murals describing the images of Genesis, considered to be the most successful Moldavian pictures.

We delight our visual senses with the craft technique of pottery in which the clay, water and fire form a magic triangle, from which it results the famous Black Poterry. There`s a story saying that the pottery from Marginea stole the night without the stars and never let it go again. Ever since then, all the vessels made by the hands of folk craftsmen, plates, bowls or pitchers have become black and smooth.

Our journey continues with Putna, a place where we are visiting Chilia lui Daniil Sihastru (Daniil Sihastru`s Cell), a chiseling chapel  dug by him into the rock, and below that, another room, dug into the rock too. The road takes us to the first fortified monastery built by Stefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great), which shelters his tomb with his family. The monastery museum is hosting a very important collection of byzantine embroidery from all over the world, old manuscripts, old fabrics made of gold or silver thread, or made of silk.

The last landmark, but also one of the most important is called The Sistine Chapel of East because of its beauty and unicity, and also for its west side fresco that illustrates the Last Judgment. The Voronet Monastery was painted with the famous pigment called Voronet`s Blue.

On our way back home, we`ll be able to think about all the valuable informations gained in this cultural journey which delighted the soul and mind.

The transition from Bucovina to Tara Oasului is made through the Ciocanesti  commune museum , a true oasis of Bucovinian tradition, untouched by the passing of time, hosting over 600 houses with walls painted with traditional motifs.

The journey continues along the Bistrita river to Pasul Prislop ( Prislop Pass ), the highest pass in the Eastern Charpathians that makes the transition between two historical areas from the north of the country. The wonderful natural landscape accompanies you until you “get to knock” at Poarta Maramuresului  (The Maramures Gate) which hides secret messages through its sculpted symbols.

Here, in Maramures, Death is more serene and the sad cemetery is like a theatre scene that makes everybody laugh; so here, in the cemetery, the tears are transformed into smiles once you start reading the epitaphs on the crosses, painted in beautiful colors.

In Sighetul Marmatiei we visit Memorialul Victimelor Comunismului si al Rezistentei (Victims of Communism and Resistance Memorial), a museum set up in a former prison, that reveals us many of the atrocities of the communist system, through recordings, book pages or documents filed.

The supreme landmark from this journey is Barsana Monastery, a little heaven in the heart of Maramures, where the local craftsmen completed their works by giving a special beauty to the wooden buildings. The monastery was included in the Unesco heritage.

The peace of mind you`ll get in this wonderful place will be with you all the way back home, making you wish to return one day.

Varful Rarau (The Peak Rarau) includes a spectacular set of limestone cliffs, Pietrele Doamnei (The Lady`s Stones) which have a height of 80 meters. The road to the wonderful mountain goes through Cheile Zugrenilor (The Zugreni Keys), a natural reserve, due to its strange geological forms.
