Entry fees &registration

Please note that from the 1st of July entry fees will become more expensive, reaching maximum value.  A reminder for everyone that entry fees value is calculated by the date of payment, not the day of registration.  Also, for people who chose PayPal as payment please note that in some cases the Paypal fee was not correctly included in payments and will need to be adjusted upon registration on site.

So close to the congress starting date it becomes vital for the people who intend to come but didn’t register yet to do it ASAP. For every two newly registered players we need to prepare a table, chairs and a Go set with a timer. We also need to calculate and order the welcome bags and print congress booklets for everyone. Late registrations can disrupt our work and keep us busy, thus lowering the general quality of our preparations.

Accommodation

We do not manage accommodation anymore, please contact hotels directly from now on. People who reserved accommodation at Casa Bucovineana, Vanatorul and Vila Seva can pay upon arrival directly at the hotel’s check in desk.

Meals

Please note that there will be good quality street food at the congress main venue Loisir. Something to be taken into account when you plan your lunch or dinner.

Congress playing halls

The PGETC finals and European Championship will be held at Euromontana Center (CE-MONT) along with first 3-4 boards from the main tournament. The main tournament and most of the side events will be held at the Sports Hall that is part of the Loisir agreement and relaxation base which is the main hub of congress activities. A detailed map of Loisir Congress setup was added at the venue section.

The first four rounds of the online World Youth Go Championship where 12 European representatives are qualified will be held between 1st – 6th August at the ‘White Saloon’ inside the House of Culture.

The Annual General Meeting of the EGF will be held at the Hall of mirrors inside the town hall building.

A map with general points of interest will be published soon.

Congress meeting points – We identified five locations where we think people will enjoy meeting and socializing.  The biggest meeting point is obviously the main venue at Loisir, where we prepared a lot of interesting activities.

Just next door there is Casa Bucovineana with a generous restaurant and terrace space.

Close to the Central Park we have the excellent Carol summer garden.

Up the hill close to the main venue we have Pensiunea Vanatorul with a very pleasant green environment and finally, if you are looking for a place with a breathtaking scenery where you can grab a drink and a snack and play a special mood Go game, you will need to ride the chairlift all the way up. We intend to place a few Go sets in each location that will be available for renting.

Teaching – We updated our teaching page on the website. This year our teachers at the congress will be Guo Juan 5p, Yuki Shigeno 2p, Antti Tormannen 1p and Mateusz Surma 2p. A detailed schedule will be announced soon.

Due to very difficult international context our usual pro guests from Asia will not be able to participate live at the congress. In exchange we will get recorded reviews of top board games from high level professional players from Japan and China. We will play those recordings on a screen at the main venue.

Additionally, Twich sessions of our European pros are scheduled as well, keep an eye for updates.

Shuttle bus – In order to avoid misunderstandings please note that shuttle bus times announced on the website are people requests, not trips reserved already. We are still collecting travel data and will announce the bus schedule and prices at a later date.

It is important to note that in some cases, due to low number of people requests for a certain day or hour, it may be more convenient to use public transportation. Our partner travel company Sincarom offers all kind of solutions, even small car pickup, but this can get very expensive especially if you are the only one riding that car. The sharp rise in prices doesn’t help either…

Schedule – The schedule on the website was written one year ago and we are now carefully checking everything again with the aim of publishing un updated version. The opening ceremony on the 23rd July is being rescheduled for 17.30 pm, in order to allow reasonable dinner time for participants. Please note that depending on weather we will do the festivity either outdoor at Loisir main venue or at the House of Culture.

Side events – Registration forms will be available starting Monday 24th July for the football, tennis and basketball tournaments. If you have suggestions on how to plan and carry out those objectives don’t hesitate to contact us.

Events calendar – There will be a calendar of town events and congress events published soon. For now, is quite clear that we will have a busy start with the planned two days of activities for children during 22nd-23rd July that will continue with the Lil’ Fair from Dorna land, a display of local traditions arranged just for you at our main venue Loisir, from the 24th-26thJuly. Featuring local cheese, meat, fish products as well as weaving arts, egg painting and woodworking. A great occasion to purchase special gifts for special people.

Trips and entertainment – At the info point you will find a lot of information about things to do in the area. Once in a lifetime chance to visit places like the Calimani National Park, ride a horse or a rafting boat. Short trips and events will be organized based on registration lists at the site. Longer trips, like the ones announced already on our website, will also be booked with registration lists at the site. As a general rule, in most cases a minimum number of people is required in order to start the event/trip.

Weather– Last but not least, weather is critical to the success of a Go congress, especially in our case where most of activities are planned outdoor. Normally, in Vatra Dornei at the end of July you can expect temperatures of 25-30 degrees, with sometimes cold mornings or evenings and very little rain. But…A while ago a bet was made with the president of the EGF. According to him, each congress comes with unusual hot temperatures. We hope to win that bet, despite the fact that weather in June in Vatra Dornei was suspiciously good. In previous years it used to rain a lot, which might indicate a change in the weather pattern for this year. At any rate, if it will be too hot or it will rain too much, at least we know whose fault it is 🙂

Stay tuned for future updates!
